Our B. Giving Initiative for this holiday season benefits UCI MIND (The Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders at the University of California, Irvine)—whose mission is near and dear to our hearts. For the 7th Annual UCI Mind Gala we were honored and proud to be creating and donating more than 350 custom gift favor boxes filled with our “crunchy perfection of sweetness” and adorned with UCI’s navy and gold colors.

Each of our B. Giving Initiatives aligns with our commitment to impact the world in a positive way, and UCI MIND is no different. In fact, it’s extra sweet to Betsy Thagard, our founder. This year’s Gala, “A December to Remember,” took place on December 3 at the Balboa Bay Resort—a longstanding B. toffee partner—in Newport Beach and supports Alzheimer’s disease research at UCI. Betsy’s father lived with Alzheimer’s and passed away in 2015.

A longtime physician, her father participated in numerous clinical trials for the disease. His wish when he passed was to donate his brain for continued research—a purposeful choice that his loving family fulfilled after his passing. His brain was donated to UCI’s cutting-edge program.

UCI Mind is Orange County’s only state and federally funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center—and one of only 29 centers of its kind in the country. An esteemed center among the scientific community, UCI MIND strives for the prevention, treatment, and cure for this healthcare crisis that affects 5.4 million Americans. The annual Gala aims to raise funds to fuel this critical work.

We could not be more grateful to support UCI Mind’s vision and dedication.
